Vote for Mural Design

$5.00

I need your help!

I’m participating in Mural Fest at ScienceWorks this summer. The murals will be created June 20 and 21st and will be on site at ScienceWorks throughout the summer of 2026. I am VERY excited to participate in this event. Hanging out with 20+ other artists, all intensely making art for a weekend - YAY!!!!

As you probably know, I’m not a mural artist! But hey - I got this! What I don’t got though is the right kind of paint for the project. I use traditional oils which are not right for this job. What I need to buy $150 worth of mural paint. This is a community event - that will be VERY fun for me, but is not a paid gig. So — I am inviting you to have fun helping me decide which design to use - and by charging $5 for your vote, I can earn money for the paint and maybe if there are lots of votes, to pay myself a wage.

The theme for this year is “Belonging”.
I have three ideas for the mural. I’m having a HARD time choosing which idea to go with.

  • Welcome to Southern Oregon - Mountains of the Cascades and Siskiyous fade into the distance with Pilot Rock on the horizon. Big Fluffy clouds float by.

  • Fresh Stickers - fruit stickers on a panel of blue sky with fluffy clouds. When the mural fest is over, my husband and I will cut out the fruit shapes with a jig saw, paint the sides and make them into art that can be mounted to walls indoors or outdoors. I LOVED stickers growing up and I think kids and families who visit ScienceWorks will enjoy the message of “fresh stickers” and “Have a nice summer.” It vibes the message of Belonging, because I aim to make people feel good when they see it. Feeling good feels like belonging.

  • Manor Motel - Vacancy at the motel. I’m not sure how this would fit into the idea of Belonging, but it’s an invitation to travelers for sleep. I might play with the idea of including the words WELCOME or PEACE or REST in the neon. But it’s based on the Manor Motel in Ashland which has the best neon sign. The fun part of this is just depicting the cool lights and colors.

Which design do you think is best? Which would be best for the venue?

Voting is open now through June 1. I’ll send you a special email announcing the winning design, and I’ll send you pictures of the painting process.

PS - All the images are drafts. When the the voting ends and the final image is selected, I will put more work into finishing the design.
