Nocturnes and the Night Sky
Night time is special.
Depicting night scenes presents a practical challenge for a plein air painter. Most of my work is done on site, out doors, with some studio touches. Night scenes are not easy because I like to go to bed at night, and If it’s dark enough to see the sky, it’s too dark to see my easel.
Watch this recording of an artist talk I prepared for The Talent Gallery’s Sunday Artist Talk series. I share my process, some science about how we perceive the dark and advocate for responsible lighting, so we can all enjoy more of the mystery and beauty of the night.
